Data Backup is an easy-to-use and complete backup solution for home and small offices, designed for secure backups for your data. It can help you backup the data from the local disk to other media storage fast and safely. Restoring is very easy. You can select backup files to restore to the original location or a new location. It includes two parts: Folder Backup/Restore and Clone Genius. There are other convenient options as incremental backup, built-in backup schedule etc. All can be done easily and automatically.

The differences between file archives and disk/partition images

A backup archive is a file or a group of files, which contains a copy of selected files/folders or a copy of all information stored on selected disks/partitions. When you backup files and folders, only the data that belong to the folder tree, can be compressed and stored.

Backing up disks and partitions is performed in a different way. Clone Genius stores a sector-by-sector snapshot of the disk, including the operating system, registry, drivers, software applications and data files, as well as system areas hidden from the user. This procedure is called “creating a disk image”, and the resulting backup archive is called “disk/partition image”. By default, the Clone Genius archive files’ extension name is pch, pce or pcs.

Using CD and DVD burners

Clone Genius supports CD and DVD burners.

CD or DVD burners cannot be identified by the operating system (Windows) as a removable media like the floppy disk and Iomega’s zip drive. Namely, it is not easy for their identification to span over multiple media like true removable media.

To solve the problem, Clone Genius is delivered with its own burner driver. In this case, the file is first built to the hard disk and then burned to the CD or DVD. It requires that you should have enough free disk space on your hard disk. When you perform Disk to CD/DVD, your computer should have no less than TWO disks; the one that stores temporary files should have free space larger than that of CD/DVD. Similarly, when you perform Partition to CD/DVD, your computer should have no less than TWO partitions, and the one that stores temporary files should have free space larger than that of CD/DVD.

5. Note for Vista users

Clone Genius is globally compatible with Vista.

You must run it as administrator.
